Magic Futurebox Internships

MFb is currently seeking interns for 3 positions this summer.  Magic Futurebox interns will learn how to produce, organize, and promote independent theatre and art in New York City. We're looking for a few enthusiastic and detail oriented interns who are excited about the future of theatre for 2012 Summer.


Magic Futurebox Production and Administration Intern 

MFb seeks bright, computer literate, and detail oriented interns to assist with production and administration of 10 productions in our 2012 - 2013 season. Interns will learn budgeting and production finance with QuickBooks and Excel, negotiating and writing contracts, scheduling and organizing auditions and rehearsals, database management with FileMaker Pro, working with various performing arts unions, and web platforms for promotion and sales. Interns are expected to work a minimum of 10 hours per week, but are welcome to work up to 40 hours per week for a minimum of 10 weeks. 

Intern duties will include: 

• Research and source materials for productions

• Work on budgets for productions and the company

• Assist with fundraising and sponsorship efforts for productions

• Keep track of finances using QuickBooks

• Coordinate auditions, rehearsals, and photo calls

• Respond to artists' needs during rehearsals and performances

• Work box office and concessions during performances

• Assist in load-in and break down for performances

• Work with other interns to coordinate marketing efforts and facilities use

• Assorted administrative and managerial duties for company and productions

• Work with Actor's Equity Association to maintain all proper contracts as needed

Interns should be computer literate (preferably Mac), have good writing skills, a passion for performing arts, attention to detail, and be familiar with Microsoft Word. Special priority will be given to candidates with knowledge of Excel, Google web applications, Microsoft Office or iWork, and simple HTML, but all are welcome to apply.

Magic Futurebox Branding, Marketing, and Social Media Intern 

MFb seeks bright, computer literate, and creative interns to assist with new promotional strategies for the company and for 10 upcoming productions in our 2012 - 2013 season. Interns will learn how to write press releases, use newsletter and content management systems, the basics of sponsorship & fundraising, and work directly with the producers to create and implement online and print promotional strategies. Interns are expected to work a minimum of 10 hours per week, but are welcome to work up to 40 hours per week for a minimum of 10 weeks.

Intern duties will include: 

• Adding content to MFb's Facebook timeline

• Updating MFb's various social networking platforms (Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, etc.) with relevant materials 

• Creating onsite branding and marketing materials for the company and productions 

• Working with the company's press representatives to create press releases and respond to media inquiries 

• Write and publish company's online newsletter 

• Update and maintain company website 

• Create sponsorship and fundraising packets 

• Design and order print marketing materials such as postcards, posters, and programs 

• Write copy for productions 

Interns should be computer literate (preferably Mac), comfortable with social networking, have good writing skills, and be familiar with Microsoft Word. Special priority will be given to candidates with knowledge of Photoshop, PowerPoint or Keynote, Google web applications, Microsoft Office or iWork, and simple HTML, but all are welcome to apply.

Magic Futurebox Facilities and Production Tech Intern Posting

MFb seeks bright, computer literate, and detail oriented interns to assist with technical production and facilities maintenance for 10 productions in our 20,000 sq. ft. warehouse performance space during our 2012 - 2013 season. Interns will learn how to set up, operate, and maintain lighting, audio, and projection systems, how to budget and source necessary technical equipment for performances, and the basics of repairing of technical equipment for live performance production (trouble shooting, soldering, and simple circuit board replacement), as well as database management systems (FileMaker Pro). Interns are expected to work a minimum of 10 hours per week, but are welcome to work up to 40 hours per week for a minimum of 10 weeks. 

Intern duties will include: 

• Work with designers on execution of designs for MFb productions

• Assist in build-out and improvement designs and execution

• Set up and maintain technical equipment for productions

• Trips to Materials for the Arts warehouse to find materials for company and production

• Repair and maintain facilities and technical equipment

• Help maintain inventory of props, set pieces, technical equipment, and costumes

• Coordinate facilities use between MFb and resident artists

Interns should be computer literate (preferably Mac), have a passion for performing arts, attention to detail, and be willing to roll up their sleeves and work. Special priority will be given to candidates with knowledge of any electrical or production technologies, construction, and/or stage management, board op, or other theater tech experience, but all are welcome to apply.
