The Robots Are Coming!

Public Domain #4: Rossum's Universal Robots opens next week! For four performances only, come see the play that started the whole concept of robot revolution (and coined the term "robot"). For this installment of Public Domain, Homunculus Mask Theater Company, under the direction of Joe Osheroff, will be presenting their unusual and thoroughly modern brand of masked theatre, so this is NOT something you want to miss. RUR is the inspiration for so so much sci-fi that even 89 years later, it still resonates with contemporary audiences. As director Joe Osheroff said in our first concept meetings, "It's basically Battlestar Galactica."  If that's not a reason to see a piece of theatre, I don't know WHAT is.

You can purchase tickets online at Brown Paper Tickets-- make sure you get them soon, because this show has a VERY limited engagement!

Weighing Cake Options for Blood and Cake's Saturday Late Night Show

Blood and Cake opens tonight at 7:00 (and runs tomorrow and Friday night at that time, too!), but on Saturday night we're having a late night showing at 9:30, followed by a FREE cake and booze reception! We've decided to serve red sangria to go with the "blood" theme.

But we're still trying to decide where we'll get the cake! Can you help us out by telling us where we should get our cake? Here's the places and flavors we're considering:

  • Baked - chocolate cake with peppermint frosting, banana cake with peanut butter and chocolate frosting, citrus cake with passionfruit frosting, and spice cake with egg nog frosting
  • Cupcake Cafe - vanilla cake with vanilla buttercream frosting, chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream frosting, and walnut cake with maple buttercream frosting
  • Crumbs - "squiggle" cupcakes (like those Hostess cupcakes: chocolate with vanilla buttercream filling and chocolate frosting) and vanilla cake with sprinkles baked in and vanilla cream cheese frosting
  • Kumquat Cupcakery - chocolate cake with milk chocolate orange frosting, lemon cake with lavender frosting, banana cake with peanut butter frosting, and pumpkin spice cake with vanilla frosting
  • Amy's Bread - dark chocolate cake with chocolate ganache frosting, yellow cake with pink vanilla buttercream frosting, and red velvet cake with vanilla buttercream frosting

Would you prefer the unique flavors of Baked or Kumquat or are you more inclined to go with the classics from Cupcake Cafe or Amy's Bread? Or the whimsical, childhood nostalgia-inducing flavors from Crumbs? Leave your vote in the comments (or suggest alternatives!) and buy your tickets for Saturday night's performance now! We'll let you know on Friday where we've decided to get cake.

Overclock Your New Year's and Support John Faustus!

This New Year's Eve, throw down for a good cause. We're raising money for the production of John Faustus and the Overclocked Death Drive, a mad-cap, frenetic multimedia adaptation of the classic Faust story, and we're having a huge NYE bash to do it!

Presale tickets are available RIGHT NOW at https://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/139381

For just $25 you'll enjoy an open bar ALL NIGHT LONG, sponsored by Sixpoint Craft Ales (don't worry, there will be non-beer options, too), a champagne toast at midnight, and all the dancing you can stand until the early morning hours. And who better to help you overclock that death drive than the master of destruction, the incomparable:

NULLSLEEP (8bitpeoples, Blip Festival)

Nullsleep creates powerful romantic pop using repurposed low-bit electronics in a relentless search for new ways to circumvent their limitations. Bittersweet melodies and driving, rhythmic pulses are coaxed out of small plastic devices to produce a surprisingly intense sound. In 1999 Nullsleep cofounded 8bitpeoples, a collective of artists interested in the audio-visual aesthetics of early home computers and video game consoles. He has since released a number of recordings through 8bitpeoples, Astralwerks, Aniplex and others. Based in New York City, Nullsleep has performed extensively throughout North America, Europe and Asia, including the 20-date International Chiptune Resistance world tour in 2006.

There will also be banging DJ sets by:

DJ CHOYCE HACKS (resonatormag.com)
DJ DR. WHO? (Room 404 Media)

And if the one glass of champagne isn't enough, or you're feeling especially wicked, an extra 25 bucks gets you champagne bottle service-- that's $50 for open bar, party, and a bottle of bubbly for your very own.

We'll be adding more information throughout the coming weeks, but be certain that this is already a party you won't soon forget-- that is, if you can remember it in the morning!
